re: Airport site
Moved - thanks.
Great ATC Tower controller
I was coming in at night and the airport is very hard to find among all the other light clutter. A very patient tower controller turned ry30 up full and turned all the other runway lights off to make it easier to find.

re: Do something about the Glenora/Vietnam experience!
I've never been to Duncan Airport, so I'm not sure about the situation, but at most airports there's something called a "circuit" that aircraft follow. Generally speaking, it's a rectangle about 3 km long and 1 km wide, with the runway in the middle of one of the long sides (and it can flip locations depending on the wind direction). At an airport without a control tower (that's most airports), everybody flies the same circuit for the sake of safety. They'll be at about 1,000 ft above ground level on the long side that doesn't have the runway (what we call the "downwind" side). It's important that everyone use the same circuit to avoid the risk of midair collisions, and to provide an orderly way for multiple aircraft to approach the airport and land (it's sort-of the flying equivalent of a four-way stop, where there's no light, but all the drivers know and follow the same rules).
So if you live under the circuit, unfortunately, there will be many aircraft flying repeatedly at 1,000 ft above your house on days when the wind favours the corresponding runway. That information is public (there are even often different zoning regulations near an airport), but most realtors either suppress it or outright lie about it to make house sales, then any home owners who don't like airport operations are left feeling angry and duped once the realtor has run off with the sales commission.
Do something about the Glenora/Vietnam experience!
Endless circling of large low flying helicopters is not fair to the neighbors. I understand that they need hours mechanically etc, but have them fly in larger darn circles!
charter?
hi, would there be any charter service available to some southern ontario airports? or anyone could put me in touch with one,
greatly appreciated.
A recollection...
Back in the 70s/80s the planes would come in to collect the weed and there would be clashes with soldiers! Later, they 'bombed' the strip so planes couldn't land no more. One summer we went camping at Garvey Maceo school just above (and to the right of) the strip. Nicest time ever!!! I remember there was a crashed plane at the strip and we snuck out to see it! So cool!
Not much to report
I was here! That's about all there is to say. :)
Don't screw up!
Don't screw up! The Cemetery is right up against 07. :)
I actually landed here!
A bit rough but not a problem. If the wind is up, pretty choppy around the trees.

re: re: Missing runway?
The CFS will be updated to include a note in the "caution" section only if the airport operator requests it.
There is no requirement for registered aerodromes to have painted runway markings. Only certified aerodromes need to have them visible.
re: Great beach within 5 minutes walk
Reply to @philippe:west apron is now closed..Nanaimo radio directs all traffic to apron at new terminal (adjacent to fuel pumps)
re: re: Missing runway?
Reply to @david: I submitted an e-mail from Nav Canada from which I got a reply today. They are looking into it.
I requested that they update the CFS so that they note the runway is unmarked. There is signage at the airport to indicate that it still is an active runway.
re: Malta Apt NDB
Added - thank you very much for the update.
re: Missing runway?
Reply to @bcrosby: what was the word on 05/23 when you visited, Blake? Is it still usable?
re: Logan sucks!!!
Fortunately, Beverley Airport, a 25-minute drive to the north, loves general aviation, and even offers free customs. Logan has a great location, but Massport clearly doesn't want us using the airports it operates.
Logan sucks!!!
It's nice to see that they respect General Aviation pilots and work towards making their fees and costs reasonable! (this represents sarcasm, of course)
Woman, 85, claims she was strip-searched at JFK airport
An 85-year-old woman said she was injured and humiliated when she was strip-searched at an airport after she asked to be patted down instead of going through a body scanner.
Transport security officials have denied allegations by Lenore Zimmerman, who said she was taken to a private room and made to take off her clothes after she asked to forgo the screening because she was worried it would interfere with her defibrillator. She missed her flight and had to take one two-and-a-half hours later, she said.
"I'm hunched over. I'm in a wheelchair. I weigh under 110lb (50kg)," she said. "Do I look like a terrorist?"
But in a statement the Transportation Security Administration said no strip search had been carried out.
"While we regret that the passenger feels she had an unpleasant screening experience, TSA does not include strip searches as part of our security protocols and one was not conducted in this case," the statement read.
Zimmerman was dropped off by her son at JFK airport in New York for a 1pm flight on Tuesday to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on JetBlue, she said. She arrived at the ticket counter at about 12.20pm and headed for security in a wheelchair, her metal walker in her lap.
She said she had been traveling to Florida for at least a decade and had never had a problem being patted down until now. "I worry about my heart, so I don't want to go through those things," she said, referring to the advanced image technology screening machines at the airport.
As a result, she said, she was taken into the private screening room by a female agent and made to strip.
"Private screening was requested by the passenger, it was granted and lasted approximately 11 minutes," the TSA said. "TSA screening procedures are conducted in a manner designed to treat all passengers with dignity, respect and courtesy and that occurred in this instance."
The private screening was not recorded.
Jonathan Allen, a TSA spokesman, said a review of closed-circuit television at the airport had showed that proper procedures before and after the screening had been followed.
Zimmerman said she banged her shin during the process and it bled "like a pig,", partly because she is on blood-thinning medication. She said an emergency medical technician patched her up, but she was told to see a doctor when she arrived in Florida to make sure the wound did not get infected. There are no records indicating medical attention was called on her behalf.
"I don't know what triggered this. I don't know why they singled me out," she said.
Her son, Bruce Zimmerman, said: "My mother is a little old woman. She's not disruptive or unco-operative. I don't understand how this happened."
He said she had had an increasingly difficult time travelling, especially since her husband died a few years ago. She has two grandchildren and her older son, a doctor, died in 2007.

Missing runway?
Is it me or does 05/23 NOT exist? I didn't see any runway numbers and where one would be, the pavement looks pretty beat up. The CFS says it's paved.. but I have my doubt's that is accurate.
airport
we were up there on our bicycles after riding from the park, pretty rough shape, I don't think I would land my plane there.
re: Good place to visit
Reply to @dazuppa: A year ago A girl named Kathy was hated by everyone. Everyone made fun of her. She was ignored. Even by messages. One day she decided to kill herself. Because even her parents ignored her. She jumed out her window. No one noticed untill people started dissapearing. Kathy haunted them. She made them suffer like the way she did. She hung them slowly and stabed them over and over very slowly so they could suffer like she did.
If you don't send this message to 15 diffrent comments you will die tonight by Kathy. Because she considers it ignooring her.
Example 1:
Dave looked at the first sentece and said, "Spam" And the next day the neighbors found him in his backyard, dead.
Example 2:
Joane was alone. She didn't have kids or a husband. She had alot of friends. When She had a sleepover with them she quickly had to check her e-mail.She saw this message and sent it to only 6 people because she thought she couldn't die that night beacuse she was surounded by people. The next morning Joane's friends found her in her bathtub, dead.
If you don't send this, Kathy WILL find you\

Agreement on the odd behavior of FBO guy
I flew in once to get some gas and thought the same thing. The guy (don't remember his name) seemed all put out at having to take my money for the fuel. Can't put my finger on it but there was something just a little bit (off) about him. Other than that its a nice little fly in,...Runway could use some work.
Oddball weirdo at the FBO
Richmond is a nice little airfield but the FBO operator acts a bit strange.,

Timmy the Fluffy White Pomeranian Puppy
THIS IS A SCAM!!! This is the email I received when inquiring about a pom puppy Listed in Dockweiler Beach, California - this is a scam. That same email rsponse is listed at the Cameroon Douala International airport.
Your home sounds loving and perfect for Timmy. Thanks for your soonest responds and assurance. We must say that we are so excited to let Timmy to your loving home , we trust you so much now that you have assured us a loving home for Timmy. Timmy would get along well with your family Timmy is a very smart and intelligent beautiful little girl with a super personality. She has a heart of gold and warms up to everyone quickly. She is good with children and other animals, Timmy is 21 weeks old and highly potty trained. We really hope you are a pet lover because we want the best for her, we know we will be missing our girl dearly but providing all her needs makes us very happy. Please we just want you to promise us you are going to take very good care of her. Timmy will make a wonderful companion to your family and she will be the highest play mate you can ever imagine.
To tell you a bit about my self, i am Victorine the wife of Penn. I am 29 and i am expecting my first baby. I got married 3 years back and we are so happily married. I have been with dogs all my life as my Grand Father was a pet lover. I usually go there on holidays and would spend much time with the animals and house pets there. Timmy`s mother Milo was given to me as a wedding gift by my grand father.
We traveled to Salt lake city Utah on research purpose. We are out to carry out a research on plants and backs of trees in the Victoria East Bay botanic garden research center Salt lake city Utah. The area is good in many species of plants and some of the plants and backs of trees serves as medicines. We would be here for 7 months and we do not really have time to take good care of Timmy that is why we have decided to give her for adoption.
we not selling Timmy or giving her away for an adoption fee. All we need from you is to show her all the love and care she deserves and to treat her as a member of your family, sending us updates and pictures of her from time to time.
There will be no problem flying Timmy to you as she has all her health papers and she will come with them. All you will need to do is to get back to us with your detail address that is your full names, your state, city, phone number, zip postal code and the name of the nearest airport to your location and we will do the shipping arrangements and fly her to you so that you will pick her up from the airport.
As soon as you get back to me with your detail address we will do the shipping arrangements and prepare the adoption and transfer of ownership document of Timmy at the pets department of the salt lake city international airport. When we have completed the shipping arrangements under your address, the pet shipping company at the salt lake city international airport will contact you for notification you will then pay the shipping fee directly to them which will cost $250. This fee includes all the airport charges so you will not have any other fee to pay. The pet shipping company will also let you know how the shipping and delivery works. It really hurts to see her go but we are just doing this for her own good.
When you are ready for us to proceed with the shipping arrangements you get back to us with your address so that we will do the shipping arrangements.
Thanks and waiting to read from you

Victorine and Penn
I Googled her name when I got a bad feeling that this was not on the up and up. This scam is also being done with chihuahuas and bulldogs. Google Victorine Monique and they will come up.
Great Facility, very reasonable fuel prices and great servic
Runway 36-18 bumpier in spring as frost leaves ground, but last writer below completely exagerates condition. Both my planes based here, and in addition to light aircraft, Dash, Metro, Hawker and RJ traffic regularly use runway with no difficulty. Staff always prepared to provide for transportation needs, whether calling for or furnishing rides. Exceptional mechanical and paint shop too, providing services to commercial and private operators. Very reasonable fuel prices and no parking fees. Head and shoulders above Sault airport (CYAM) in every respect. Same distance to town as CYAM, so for visiting traffic, CPF2 is much better with cheaper fuel, no landing fees, no parking fees and abundantly helpful and capable service attendants on site. Water aerodrome as well at this facility, both on Lake George and taxi up Bar River to base, or on water runway parallel to 36-18.

There's a station for the "L" train Orange Line in the terminal: ~25 minutes to downtown and the Loop.

re: Cost of landing
In Canada and the U.S., most small airports don't have landing fees, though it's still a good idea to call and check.
Cost of landing
Hello to all flyers,
I sort of got fascinated by the idea of private flying when I saw those Cessnas next to Herb's and a friend showed me the mechanic; and I wanted to find out about the history of that airport; would you know the year it was opened?
And a question for CL 1960: how much does it cost to land in the grass in an informal airport such as this one?
Thank you for your time!
Stolen name
Toronto has to take everything. Billy Bishop, arguably the British Empires no 1 flying ace of WWI was from OWEN SOUND. Thats why the airport in OWEN SOUND is called Billy Bishop and was called that first. So good job Toronto, you couldnt think up something original and had to steal OWEN SOUND's airport name.
