re: Is 100 Octane Fuel Available?
According to the Canada Flight Supplement, CYPX does have 100LL available retail (extremely rare for an airport in the Canadian North). You need to give prior notice by calling 819-988-2625 during weekday hours, and have to give seven days advance notice if you plan to pay by credit card. More details in the CFS (which you should have if you're flying up that way).
Unfortunately, it's not like buying gas down south - you can't just show up, ask for a fill, and then hand over your VISA. Still, it beats having to negotiate privately to buy barrels of avgas.
Great service
Landed at CYWG this afternoon and parked my Cherokee at the Avitat. The first time I looked out the window, they were fueling my plane; the second time I looked, they were washing my windshield, as if it were a 1950s gas station!
Meanwhile, the woman at the desk found me a hotel room (nice hotel, very inexpensive), a taxi, and a list of vegetarian restaurants, and didn't even require my credit card in advance (as most FBOs do).
Esso is great
I second the comments from @douglasr - the Esso Avitat (Thunder Bay Flight Refueling) has big-airport service without the big-airport fees (compare the Esso Avitat at CYUL or CYOW to see what I'm talking about): no ramp fee, no handling fee, no parking fee.
Ryan, who was on duty, was very friendly and professional: he even booked a hotel for me downtown and arranged for them to pick me up in their shuttle, so that I wouldn't have to pay for a taxi.
Fuel
Called the Airport manager at +1 807 597-2135.
100LL costs $1.60/liter + HST ($1.81/litre, or $6.85/US gallon). Prior notice is required, but the manager said that it usually takes only 5 minutes for someone to show up, so it's OK to land first and then call the number listed above.
Regular hours are 7:30 am to 3:00 pm local. Outside of those hours, there is a $75 callout charge.

Contact info, hours, and fuel
Air Creebec (Esso) FBO: +1 705 336-3517
Hours: 7:00 am-9:00 pm local Monday-Friday; 7:00 am-6:00 pm Saturday. Not sure about Sunday.
As of 2011-08-21, 100LL is available for $1.98/litre ($7.50/US gallon) + HST (13%). Fuel is generally more expensive up north due to transportation costs, so that's not too bad.
re: wyalkatchem airport
If you have complaints about an airport, could you provide details to help other visitors (and the airport owners, if they want to improve)? For example, did you think the fees were too high, the gas too expensive, the service too slow, facilities not well-maintained?
re: Great airport
Reply to @viennatech: "I tried to back taxi to Bravo and was told to turn around!"
"Told", or "respectfully requested"? CYZR doesn't have a tower, so there's no ATC to boss you around. :)
re: A Bigger Small Airport
Reply to @dazuppa: I've never taken instruction at Buttonville, but I've used it a few times as a transient pilot, and my experiences have always been positive as far as the airport itself goes: professional ATC, good facilities, friendly staff, reasonable prices, etc.
Your point about the location is very valid, however - you walk out of the airport into the middle of the vast, soul-destroying, post-apocalyptic suburban waste land that is Toronto's blue belt, with no public transit worth mentioning and nothing in walking distance worth walking to. That's why I usually cough up the extra money for the Porter FBO at CYTZ - it costs a bit more, but then I'm right downtown and can walk anywhere I want. The Island also offers a much more beautiful approach and departure.
Capital city
This is now the airport serving the capital city of the new country of South Sudan.
re: Awesome Airport!
Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you also like my favourite airport. I think the Island Airport will seem busy if you're used to a quiet, GA-only airport like (say) Smith's Falls, Brampton or Burlington, but will feel quiet and relaxed (and almost rustic) if you're used to to busier airports like Montreal or Ottawa.
I'd also give it a high grade - 9/10 (reserving one mark because the Porter FBO, while great, is a bit too expensive).

re: Is this a commercial airport ???
I don't know if the airport is legal for commercial operations like charter, flight training, or crop-dusting, but it doesn't have any scheduled airline service.
re: IATA Airport Code
Thanks for the comment. We already have "UBP" in the database for http://www.ourairports.com/airports/VTUU/ - do you know of a source to confirm which airport it actually belongs to?
re: Airport IATA CODE
Thanks - updated.
re: Punta de Maisi Airport name
Thanks for the information. Google Maps still shows this as "Punta de Maisi" airport. Is there an official source where we can confirm the other name?
re: beacon
Reply to @Luco67: thanks for that information. Do you know the latitude and longitude of the AUB beacon?
re: big time scam Prisca_Moore@yahoo.com
Let me guess - next, you'll find out that you need to send $1,000 in legal fees to get the $14,000 in compensation, or they need your bank information to make the transfer.
Unfortunately, the email address is meaningless -- they probably create a new email account for each scam, so the same person might be Joe_Smith@yahoo.com or Jane_Doe@yahoo.com to the next victim.
re: Twin Oaks Airpark pilots harass neighbors
I'm sorry to hear the neighbours are unhappy. Is the airport new, or was it built before the homes around it? Flying circuits ("patterns" in the US) is a very important part of pilot training and practice for experienced pilots - the planes take off from one end of the runway, turn, fly the opposite direction beside the runway at about 1,000 ft above the ground, and then come back and land on the same runway again (and repeat).
This is a normal activity at any airport, but sometimes it can be hard for people nearby, which is why most airports were originally built far from densely-populated areas where they wouldn't bother too many people. Unfortunately, unscrupulous developers will often come in and built subdivisions near airports anyway, and then not tell buyers the whole truth about what it means living near an airport (personally, I don't mind planes at 1,000 ft over my house -- I can't usually hear them over the city noise of cars, trucks, buses, sirens, lawnmowers, and construction).
re: My Home Base
Reply to @dazuppa: it's not hard to bring a Cherokee in on a 6+ deg glidepath - I'm guessing the ILS 26 isn't quite that steep.
Won court battle
This airport just won a lengthy court battle to stay open, but there are some restrictions on takeoffs and landings. See http://www.aviationcadet.com/SWFrestrictions.html for details.
re: flights to Toronto Island airport
Porter is the only airline flying scheduled service into Toronto Island right now (January 2011). They have added flights to Sudbury, so it might be worth getting in touch with them and seeing if they think there might be a market for a daily flight to Kingston as well.
re: misplaced
I moved the icon to the vicinity of the hospital for now -- it's difficult to make out the exact helipad location on Google Maps.
re: re: TIF
I hope there's WiFi and a decent restaurant, at least.
re: Closed
That's bad news. Thanks for the update.

re: Asia Β» India Β» Punjab Β» Ludhiana Airport Β»
I tried Expedia and Flightaware, and couldn't see any scheduled flights into LUH. A link to a site listing the flights would be helpful.

Yearly Event
This water landing area is active once a year for the Scalaria Airchallenge, a European floatplane fly-in and airshow.
re: It's a very friendly airport now!
Thanks for the update. Next time work takes me to NoCal, I'll pay another visit.
re: Airport closed
Thanks for the update. Wikipedia agrees, so marked as closed pending any new information.

re: Kingston Ultralight Club
Sounds great. I'd love to drop by in my Warrior for a visit, but a 1,200 ft grass strip doesn't leave a lot of safety margin (it's doable, especially when I'm lightly loaded, but closer than I like). Maybe I'll drive in some Sunday.

Yes, it's a scam. Do not send money.

Vending machines
The flying school is the only (sort-of) public building at the airport. It has washrooms, a restaurant that operates only on weekends, and vending machines available the rest of the week.
Fuel
Burlington has both 100LL and Jet-A. The fuel pumps are operated by the airport, not the Spectrum Airways flight school.
Expensive airport
I just called Glanford Aviation (Shell), the only FBO that appears to offer 100LL, and they charge a $25 facility fee for a single-engine piston plane (not waived with a fill-up) on top of the airport's $18.50 minimum landing fee. That means that you're out $43.50 + HST = $48.72 the second your wheels hit the Shell apron, before you even start to put fuel in your tank. Would you fill up your car at a gas station that charged almost $50 to just to enter their lot and park in front of the pump?
Even big-city airports are usually much cheaper than this (Pearson is, of course, an exception). I don't know what the city of Hamilton (and Shell) are thinking, except that they want to scare as many visitors as possible away from Hamilton, and make sure no one spends any money in the local economy.
Airport sold
The airport has been sold to developers, who plan to continue to operate it and to build a residential airpark around it:

ARCAL runway lighting issues
The antenna for the ARCAL type J (5 clicks) runway lighting is on the west side of the museum building. Because the huge museum building is in the way, it is difficult or impossible to activate the lighting on the ground in the east half of the field (including holding short for runway 27), so you may have to taxi to midfield to activate the lights first, then taxi back if you're departing from 27.
When approaching from the east in the air, you may also have trouble activating the lighting (unless you wait until mid-downwind). Approaching from the west, it should be much easier, since you have the antenna in line-of-sight.
That said, the ARCAL is very picky, and may take several attempts even when you have it in line of site. The flying club experimented with a lot of sensitivity settings last summer in an attempt to improve it, but with no luck. Just be patient and keep trying, or call UNICOM to see if anyone's still in the club to activate the lights for you.
re: Former RAF station
Do you have the latitude and longitude for the old RAF base?
re: project not approved
Thanks for clearing that up, AndrΓ©. Let us know when your runway is operational.
Closing soon
This airport is closing soon, to be replaced by KECP. The scheduled airline service has already moved.

Reply to @FortMc: thanks for the link. It looks interesting, though I think the architect who made the 3D model might have been over-optimistic about how many airliners would be on the ramp at once. :)
