re: New lounge at Kigali Airport

@anonymousflyer-I've tried the lounge there too and its excellent! I think it was called Pearl Lounge. Internet was fast, food was tasty, staff were friendly, seats were comfortable and whats great is that they allow walk-in passengers (I was flying economy).

Rosales airport

Already non operational, grass & potholes all over the runway.

Picture of

Not the prettiest - but the cheapest

Airport is slowly getting flixed up - but in some places - they only painted a turd.

Runway is nice - but backtrack for 13 can be a pain. Grass strip is not bad - and makes a nice shortcut to clear runway/get to the terminal on busy days. Wildlife can often be a problem on the runways.

What comes after greasy spoon?? ... because that is what the restaurant is. (but some of the food - and the hours - are good)

Cheapest fuel in Southern Ontario - and their new cardlock can get pretty busy on most days because if it.

Unicom/FBO folks are extremely helpful. The AME onsite at the local shop (which restores/repowers old See-Bees) is very good

Picture of

The new nicest airport in the area

Airport has been completely renovated. Runway is even longer. New restaurant in main terminal. (along with a few snack machines)

Fuel costs as much as Greenbank - but is full serve here - and has fully stocked FBO!

Usually very busy - but also very friendly. Has a nasty backtrack for 09. (but most small GAs only backtrack the first 1/4 mile or so from Delta - and I have seen a few roll right from Delta)

Has grass strip too that even some of the twins will use...but can be soggy in spring or after good rain.

Neat collection of old wrecks in north corner, dc3, tri-pacer and a few other interesting derelicts.

Picture of

Still a nice place

The area is beautiful - but the airport has slowly fallen into disrepair since the accident a few years ago.

Still a nice little airport for a summer diversion to be sure - but not the cheapest fuel in the area any more (both Lindsay and Peterborough are considerably cheaper) ...and during my last few visits (3 of the last 5) the fuel pumps were not working at all. Also - do not count on the ARCAL J working - during my last visit, i spoke with a few of the local tenants who mentioned that it hasn't worked in awhile.

The grass is well kept - and they host a few fly-ins over the summer months. (if you visit during a fly-in, you usually find a nice distinct centerline mowed on 16/34)

Snow removal in the winter is extremely rare (but really nice when it happens).

re: Billy Bishop - isolated from town

Changes in Owen Sound. Airport now is operated by CYOS Aviation Management Inc. formed by Hangar owners, pilots on site, now with budget from the City. It is true over the years that the City ignored the potential of our airport but since July 1st, 2011, the local pilots group is operating the site, and changes are in progress. Hangar project underway with affordable 'hangarminium' holding 7 aircraft, 14' Schweiss doors, private entry, 100 amp service, finished steel ceilings, walls from $49K to $$76K. inexpensive leasing from the City, Sky Cafe with fresh home made sandwiches, drinks available, pay by honour basis, if arrivals during open hours, vehicle available most times from Guy's Aircraft AME on-site annuals at reasonable rates, COPA Flight 144, for info call: Terminal (519)371-6936. Open 8AM-5PM unicom 123.000. 100LL and Jet"A".

Re -JosΓ© MartΓ International Airport

Excellent airport..easy in and out - only a 20 dollar taxi fare to anywhere in Havana and civilized too...in the departures area, while you're waiting for your flight, there's even a 'smoking lounge' for smokers.

OHAP airport

For several years, I have had OHAP as a base, flying a Cessna 150, C-FLUG. presently for sale. What's special about this private airport? The parking terrain and runway are very solid and well maintained. Some services available; best to phone first one of three numbers listed in Canada Flight Supplement 2011. LEON WOYCHUK is the local AME with a hangar at the SouthEast of the field. He has serviced my plane for several years. I can vouch for his quality workmanship. You are welcome for a fly-in visit.

Visit Rialto....while it is still there.

The city is still trying to close the airport to build yet another idiotic strip mall....that nobody wants or needs. For now thankfully the project is "underwater" because property values are only 1/3 of what the builder Louis Homes needs to just break even.

Aviating at Rialto:

If you like testing your crosswind skills L67 is the prime destination for it when the Santa Ana winds are blowing. If they get too much for you there is always rwy 35 to get you safely on the ground.

Fuel and pilot supplies are available at Art Scholl Aviation.

Nice field near beach

The field is only a few km from nice beaches.

Runway 27 downwards a bit, but runways always cut like a golf field!

re: Latest news about Jeypore Airport

The callous and lethargic attitude of our local politicians have taken a heavy toll on the development plans of Jeypore region. The airstrip at Jeypore was built in the year 1962 and by now it should have been a key air connectivity centre in the tribal hinterland. 25 years back Vayudoot airlines conducted regular flights from Bhubaneswar, Vishakhapatnam and Raipur and now there's no service thanks to our shameless politicians. By now there should have been at least a daily flight each from BBSR, Vizag and Raipur given the number of people travelling to those places on a daily basis for business, trade and other official activities. The only train that plies between BBSR and Jyp is insufficient to handle the passengers and generally overcrowded. Hence it is imperative that the airstrip at Jeypore should be developed immediately to handle at least three daily flights so that people from the region and also the neihbouring Chhatisgarh, could benefit immensely.

re: Ultralight and Skydivers base

Reply to @dazuppa:

The trailer parks, 3 of them, are WEST of the airport, both patterns are EAST of the field.

The best way to get field info is by calling the Airport Manager found in the CFS listing, the nice folks at Toronto Aerosports are often not there for days on end.

The Parachute School of Toronto (info is available at www dot parachuteschool dot com) who also run a C-206 and several others on occasion will happily tell you what they are doing currently also.

re: Is 100 Octane Fuel Available?

According to the Canada Flight Supplement, CYPX does have 100LL available retail (extremely rare for an airport in the Canadian North). You need to give prior notice by calling 819-988-2625 during weekday hours, and have to give seven days advance notice if you plan to pay by credit card. More details in the CFS (which you should have if you're flying up that way).

Unfortunately, it's not like buying gas down south - you can't just show up, ask for a fill, and then hand over your VISA. Still, it beats having to negotiate privately to buy barrels of avgas.
