One of my most favorite airports

From the unique tent-like roof lines, to the large spacious terminals, down to the train that shuttles you to/from the Main Terminal, this is one well-designed airport. Traffic just seems to flow no matter what direction its moving. Delays are rare but are mainly caused by weather (locally or for connecting aircraft's origination point elsewhere). Like Cactus said, it's beautiful inside and out, including the historical memorabilia (home of Jeppesen), and other art displays that routinely cycle. The food areas seem spacious enough and I've always been able to find a seat to eat or one to drink from. Transportation to/from the airport is plentiful and flows just as well as the aircraft.

Getting better!

It seems like KPHX is always updating, and for good reason. Biggest problem commercially are those passengers who use Phoenix as a stop-over and have to change airline (i.e. US Air to America West). It may be updated by now, but in the past you had to shuttle in buses between the terminals and the delays can be extensive as you have to go through security when you arrive at the next terminal. This has caused me to miss a flight in the past. Other warning is flying into/out-of/thru here in summer months in the mid-to-late afternoon time frame as this is monsoon season. When lightning approaches the ramp completely shuts down at a moments notice, stranding passengers in the terminals and in the aircraft if they're away from the gate. These delays can be minutes or hours.

Winter home of the Blue Angels

This is where the boys play and practice for their upcoming season at the beginning of each year. With lots of wide open desert near by they have the perfect playground to practice and hone their skills, day after day. Hat's off to the Blue's!

Busy little airport

Commercially speaking, this can be one busy single-runway airport, near downtown San Diego. This is a well known airport for it's approach to 27, as there is a car parking structure that the aircraft have to clear within about the last 1/4 mile before the threshold. The glideslope seems a bit higher because of this when compared to other airports. It has a cramped feeling as you get to your gate area, compared to the the spacious baggage area. It's not all bad, as they do have a Starbucks at least! ;)

Right in the middle of Orange County

Whether it's for business or leisure, KSNA is the perfect spot for the airport. The main terminal is currently going through expansion (2011) on it's south section, finally stretching beyond what was the old, original terminal. This interruption has taken the smaller Rwy 1R/19L and is used as a taxi-way for the larger commercial aircraft. One of the biggest kicks is taking off to the south (19R) on a commercial jet, due to the noise abatement procedures. Full brakes, full power, release, use most of the runway, and you're suddenly 2000 feet up. This is where the pilots pull back on the throttle to keep things quiet for the neighborhoods south of the airport. Sometimes the feeling of weight-loss is very noticeable yet exciting. As was already said, whether flying commercially or privately, this is a well laid out airport. I currently use it about a dozen times a year.

Knew it as NAS Los Alimitos

Father was stationed here in the mid-late 60's before retiring as a AEC/CPO specializing on the P2V Neptune. Was a very active Naval base in the 60's & 70's, where F4 Phantom's routinely roared out to the Pacific. Runway is large enough to handle the C5A Galaxy from time to time. Once the Army took over it was common for parachuting recruits jumping out of Army Chinook's on a weekly basis. One of the most beautiful Golf courses in O.C., the Naval Golf Course, is south-east of the field and has been around as long as I can remember. I used to caddy there in the mid-70's and fish the small ponds at night with my friends.

Only the blimp hangers are left.

Ex Marine base (MCAS Tustin) with two large wooden blimp hangers that can bee seen for a good distance from any direction. The hangers have been used in many movies and TV shows over the years, including one of the Austin Powers movies and the X-Files. It was shut down in the mid 90's and has slowly disappeared, yet the hangers remain.

re: Awesome Airport!

Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you also like my favourite airport. I think the Island Airport will seem busy if you're used to a quiet, GA-only airport like (say) Smith's Falls, Brampton or Burlington, but will feel quiet and relaxed (and almost rustic) if you're used to to busier airports like Montreal or Ottawa.

I'd also give it a high grade - 9/10 (reserving one mark because the Porter FBO, while great, is a bit too expensive).

re: C59 - Lake Lawn Lodge - Hope it reopens

Reply to @airbound:

Lodge is opening for business. Airstrip, however is still closed and they were not sure if it would re-open. Flew over on 29-Jun-2011, one aircraft on taxiway indicated field was closed (wondered why they were down there but didn't ask).

Amazing Approach

Saw whales breaching during my descent into Kona! The ocean was sparkling and it was a clear day!

Oh My God, the fish!

I was there yesterday (July 3/11). No real terminal and no staff for fuel. Call ahead or make sure you have enough for a return trip. When you get there, there is a little box attached to the 'terminal' with the guest book. Inside this box is the phone number for Herberts fish & chips. They will gladly come pick you up and drop you off! There are 2 towers on the NW side of the field and a smaller one on the South side to be aware of. This is kind of remote so a walk into town is necessary or arrange something with this fish and chip guys or the local outfitters. And Lord Thundering Jesus the fish! The best fish and chips ever! Yesterday they had fresh whitefish that they catch themselves. They are a fresh fish market that also batters and fries them so you know you are getting the freshest and the best.

5 Stars

Can't complain about anything at John Wayne Airport. It's relatively small and it's extremely easy to navigate through the terminal. Friendly personnel as well.

Picture of Cactus211

Unique

I love this airport. Nice facilities all around and unique artwork throughout the terminals makes DEN a worth-while experience.

Picture of Cactus211

Nice Airport

Open-style terminal building is really cool and highlights the tropical experience you'll have in the Caribbean.

Easy to and Through

Dayton Intl. Airport truly lives up to it's motto: "Easy to and through".

Picture of Cactus211

Hassle Free

For a large airport, this one is easy to get in and out of and I'm proud to call it my home airport. I've never had any problems at DFW.

If you find any out-of-date information, please let us know. In some cases, you can change the information yourself once you create an account.

Great place to learn to fly!

Next time you're in the area, look up Mr. Howard Deevers, a living legend in his own 50 years of aviation. Ask him how "Doc" is doing these days... you might even get him to show you how to fly, sign off on your certificate, take a look at your engine, or help you get your next rating. It's one-stop shopping with this incredible guy!

Floatplanes!

This airport is a busy floatplane hub with specialized hydroplane flying school on site. Lots of them are flying in the vicinity, and landplanes are a secondary activity at Orilla. Runway is ok, though quite beaten and with a pronounced slope westwards. Taxiways are all gravel - careful with your prop! FBO is very well maintained, there is a little snack house with cute patio, and overall Orilla looks like a busy and interesting place to visit - apart from the beautiful water scenery.

Picture of dazuppa

No go place

This airport looks like it was closed but the crosses were not painted on the runway ends. Asphalt is all cracked with grass growing through, there are pits and humps all around, and only central part of the airport maneuvering surfaces is more or less usable.

Funny approach to 25 - on short final you almost clip the houses, overflying their backyards quite tightly. There is a pronounced upslope on the first quarter of 25, and overall 07 looks like a safer choice, wind permitting.

There is a bunch of little airstrips and a decent corporate airport close to Barrie, so unless you wish to seriously punish your landing gear - no need to go Springwater.

re: New English Bulldog Puppy Scam

hi after reading all the posts on this site i am pretty sure me and my husband have been scammed. We were told our breeder is in a comma from a car wreck and the cargo person that was to bring the bulldog puppy to our house was hit by a passing car and killed. We have sent over a thousand dollars. The breeders email was bihmelvis@ymail.com and we sent the first five or six hundred to this info

Name: Wanki Edwin meteminwi

Address: airport road douala

City: Douala

Country: Cameroon

Zip code: 00237

test question: A

test answer: B

then the name changed they said the first guy was on leave so the we had to send it to this info

Name: Moforngong Moses Achiri

but all the rest of the info was the same. I didn't find this site till now and would like to know for sure if i am being scammed.

Stupid bastards! I paid in the Czech Republic nejΕ™Γv 3500 CZK 3000 CZK and then, from the original 8300 CZK, which I had allegedly paid as a refundable deposit for the pug, then that would help me at the airport and pay the remaining 5300 and I 3000th They accused me today that I sent the wrong MTCN code, and have remained silent! What do I do now?

Ummm.... This Sucks !

So.. I've been chatting with Julia who is located on Victoria Island in Cameroon @ St Francis Monk House. We've been going back and forth about the possibility of adopting a 7 month old Pygmy Marmoset.... It really does sound legit and so far all she has is my name address and telephone number which she needed to be on the 'papers' for a safe transfer. I must be falling into this category somehow huh ? Bummer... I was actually pretty excited !

Aircraft Rental

Recommend Tropicbird Flight School if you are wanting to rent an aircraft while on the Big Island. They have great aircraft including a 182; a G1000 172 and Diamond 120. Call Mike or Ashley to reserve an aircraft. Spectacular island flying!

Picture of

Ulundurpet

Surprising to know this, was it built by the British?

Graet Views Tough Landings

This little airport on the very northwest tip of the big island is probably one of the most challenging landings in Hawaii. Expect a lot of turbulence on approach. A wind farm is adjacent to the airport -- go figure why they built an airport here... No based aircraft or fuel. Enjoy!

Local Food Nearby

Get place to eat just a mile away from the airport -- Seaside Restaurant; on Kalanianaole Ave. Great seafood, a local favorite.
