Westjet inaugural flight

Departed from El Catey airport June 2010 headed for Toronto then on to Calgary. Fantastic airport and what a relief from using Puerto Plata and then driving so far. Just wait for the new road to be completed and time to Las Terrenas will be even shorter again. Samana will no longer be the worlds best hidden secret. Visit me at my restaurant in Las Terrenas by sending me an email gordon@insuranceportal.ca. Paradise in paradise.

Fuel stop

Great facility. Wish I had more time to enjoy the beautiful setting. Next time I will plan to spend at least two nights. Just proves that a user-friendly airport does not have to be attended. We were on a flight from Yellowknife to Nanaimo. The self-serve fuel was greatly appeciated and saved us from another landing for fuel. Definitely a 10 plus in my book.

Thank you.

re: desativado

Thanks for the update. I've marked the airport as closed.

re: Closed

Reply to @david: no problem, any question on dominican republic i'll be glad to help.

re: VOR Moved

Reply to @dominicanpilot: Thanks. Do you happen to know the new latitude/longitude of the VOR?

Picture of david

re: This is not an airport.

Reply to @dominicanpilot: Thanks for the update. The 2008 ICAO Location Indicators doc lists an MDBL as the identifier "Boca Chica/Batey Luisa". Is there a chance that there used to be an airport (or perhaps a heliport) somewhere in this area?

re: Closed

Reply to @dominicanpilot: thanks for the update -- I've marked the airport as closed.

re: Wigram

Reply to @rdsair: very sad news.

re: Emergency Only

Thanks - I've entered the information and marked the airport as closed.

re: One runway only

Reply to @ptomblin: I'll assume for now that that is the correct location.

Viared Airfield

Viared is open all year, but for a few days, mostly holidays. Check out local info on this site: http://www.borasflygplats.se/

After take-off RWY 22, and when you are stabilized in climb, make a slight left turn to a southerly heading to avoid complaints from nearby neighbors.

re: SkyDive Rustenburg and SkyDiversity at Rustenburg Airfie

Modernization of Bokaro steel city Airport

Bokaro is now growing into one of the fast developing city in India, where people want to have more luxuroius and comfortable jurney,But govt. is not looking at this matter and the airport is same as it was 20 years back.Govt . should provide atleast all the domestic level facilities if can not provide world class.

This is what we are hoping in future.it would be really boon for the people of this city if bokaro airport will get networked with all the major cities in India.

Lights!

Wow! They have lighted taxiway signs!

Picture of Guido

GUCY

Roberts Control will handle you inbound (and outbound) and I believe that frequency was 128.1 Roberts Control was efficient and, therefore, our descent planning was without delay. Handed-off to Conakry Approach 119.7 if memory serves otherwise published on Jepps for our clearance to fly the 10 DME ARC to the VOR DME to RW 06. Approaches are as follows: ILS 06, VOR DME 06, VOR 06 and a published visual approach to RW 24 taking you on a right-traffic course to RW 24. The ILS 06 was as per notams, out of service. As you will see from the airport diagram, expect to back-taxi on the runway for lack of taxiways. Fuel was available without delay.

re: One runway only

If you click "Show Points of Interest", is that marker on what you mean?

Noise Abatement Procedure

The Airport is located in a very noise sensitive area and a noise and track monitoring system is in use. Pilots are advised to strictly

follow the published Noise Abatement Procedures, unless otherwise instructed by ATC.

Unfortunately there are a lot of violation reports.

Picture of Chally

Mandatory Training

A mandatory training procedure was put in place at Cannes ( LFMD). Feb_2010

Please visit the website http://www.cannes.aeroport.fr/index.html and register.

Cannes is very noise sensitive and you might be checked after landing if you have done the briefing!

Super gracious hosts

A goup of us from King George Airpark in Surrey flew into Cortes with almost no notice and arrived to find lunch ready for pilots and passengers from eight airplanes. Jim and Diane are a real asset to the flying community. We will be back.

James Shepherd.

Note

Fuel is only available if paid in cash or in advance

First 300m of runway 25 are not usable because of runway condition

Picture of

One runway only

The location on the picture is due south of the aeroplane icon. You can see the east/west runway just north of the buildings and hedgeline. It is actually at the CFA training facility.

Picture of

Sharpening!

If you've let yourself get sloppy and cocky then Lynden will fix that! Great little airport but it does require that you make a stable approach at the proper airspeed. I take students in there about once a week if I see them getting too used to the 6700 feet at Bellingham.

Picture of

Hard to find, but what a view!

You can even get a cold drink at walking distance in the little village

Picture of

Great place to practice high altitude landings

Not only is the flight there via Tioga pass gorgeous, the airport itself is the best place to practice your high altitude landings

Picture of

Calling overhead and AOG frequency and runway orientation

The overhead calling frequency is 121.9 for calling other aircraft in the vicinity or AOG // Runway orientation is East, runway 29, and West, runway 11. The length of the runway is 960m, not including the threshold of 10m either end. No ATC, and no refuelling.

Picture of

Emergency Only

Old Soviet airfield used for rusupplying the garrison stationed here until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. The island is uninhabited!

The Runway is probably no good but for information:

Rwy 50/23 - Concrete - 1180m

Rwy 12/30 - Overgrown Concrete - 1470m

I'd not try landing here!

Now a comms station

Autorotations

Once upon a time this is where helicopters from nearby CFB Gagetown practised touchdown autorotations. We used grass/packed snow areas alongside the runways. Is this still what folks do, or do you still use the "new" autorotation area at the Gagetown heliport?

Picture of AwakeAndUnafraid

Deer Lake

A gaggle of CH-135s and one or two CH-136s camped near here in autumn 1974 and flew into the airport often, but much flying to the west over magnificent terrain. Very wet month!

Picture of AwakeAndUnafraid

Chipmunk 035

I don't know whether it is still there, but Chipmunk #035 was once in the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum collection. It was the first aircraft I flew, and the one in which I flew my first solo. And it still looked to be in pretty good shape when I saw it there decades later, all shiny with the faint scent of nervous pilot sweat in the leathery cockpit!

Picture of AwakeAndUnafraid

Porcupine Mountain Fire, 1979

Worked a forest fire at Porcupine Mountain in 1979. My high-time month as far as flying time is concerned.

Picture of AwakeAndUnafraid

Collective Challenge

Spent some time here in autumn 1978 for a helicopter competition. Fun

Picture of

1975

For some weeks in early spring 1975 we flew CH-135s from Alert down along the coast to a place known only as Ho Hum Bay restocking batteries and working out on that thick, old ice, supporting Defence Research Establishment (Pacific), I think. Dropped by Fort Conger, Cape Aldrich, Hazen Lake. Drilled holes through the ice and tried to get the char to bite at something. The char had more luck than we had!

In those days the station consisted mostly of ATCO huts. Comfy enough for the time we were there. I hear it is different now.

re: bulldog puppies

So he is still at it fyi, it just seemed to good to be true so i checked out the info on the internet. Sure enough the Rubin Tucker name came up. He is using two English Bulldog puppies and saying he needs 198 for two or 100 for one for the paper transfer. I am so glad I found this post before i paid or got my hopes up. Thank You

re: Long Meadow Airstrip For Sale

Reply to @Ratherfly: Couple changes...

First the cell phone number has been changed to (860) 798-6288. Call it, make sure it works.

Secondly, we have a spectacular offer for you, Better than Obama! Sellers offer $1,000 to anyone who brings them someone who buys the property. No Strings Attached! Refer a friend, a relative, a neighbor you wish would move away, and if they buy one thousand U.S. dollars go to you.
