The Red Baron was here.

We stopped to pick up a passenger on our way home from Indiana and the Red Baron landed just after we did.

re: Better get it right

Reply to @Randallksparks: It is quite short and narrow. The trees were a bit unnerving but I got it right and stuck it down on my first flight as a PPL.y CFI was great.

Picture of AlanM70

Looks vary nice

We had people waiting to pick us up and it was after hours so we didn’t go into the FBO. But it was vey clean and mowed up nice

Fact about SLK!

During the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics runway 05-23 was stretched to be able for a Boeing 747 to land!

Airport might move

Heard they want to move the airport about 50 ft northward of the road to make room for more development but that’s only what I heard, might not happen but who knows

Picture of animebirder

Mystery solved

The FAA and AirNav coordinates placed this incorrectly well to the north, but a chance spot of N7802K (private Cessna 180J Skywagon) observed taking off from there on 17 Feb 2023 finally solved this mystery

Picture of animebirder

Duplicate

Turns out this is the actual location of TA55 Del Valle, whose FAA coordinates were way too far north.

sorry

I AM very sorry of confusing that airstrip with CYSH, my brain was stupid at that time.

It would be cool if San Miguel had an airport

Busy military training field

Clean and nice FBO (Freeman) with a little restaurant and store. Getting an Uber is time consuming and the pattern is filled with Air Force trainees. The short base pattern to a parallel runway got me a little nervous when I saw a plane coming right at me before he turned to 8L. But overall a decent experience. Fuel cost is reasonable.

Picture of AlanM70

Nice airport

FBO was open Operator was friendly and helpful. Inexpensive fuel.

Picture of AlanM70

Nice Facility with Courtesy Car

Nice unmanned FBO with showers if needed and a Courtesy Car.

Came here 12 days before the fire broke out

Never thought it would be my last

Not sure if they plan on rebuilding the town, it had 122 building with a population of 2,400 ( estimated ) and all was lost, all animals still in Fox were killed

Do not confuse with Smiths Falls Airport (CYSH)

The main airport for Smiths Falls is CYSH, about 8 nm to the northeast. This is a private grass strip that is visible in the satellite imagery and included on OpenStreetMap (no other information available).

Fire damage

Facilities damaged in wildfires during spring 2023.

WHOOPS

Sorry, but I messed up.

Picture of mikeiaka

Missing from website.

I had to add this in due to the fact it’s not on le website, also for some reason the ICAO and IATA codes were not working, so I had to do some random words. (ICAO : CYSR / IATA : YSR)

9NC0 is in Charlotte, though, right?

I think the correct designation for Raleigh East is W17, at least per flightaware, airportguide, and airnav.

Those 3 sites also show 9NC0 as being in Charlotte.

Infamy

Once used for drug smuggling by the so-called "Columbus Air Force".

Picture of animebirder

Emergency use airfield.

While CGAS Casco Cove closed in 2010, runway 2/20 remains available for emergency use as of 2023 per AirNAV.

It’s a nice dirt airport, it’s been busy with the wildfires lately with planes and helicopters landing

Fuel price is still ok

5.34 in May 2023

Former N/S farm airstrip ...

Now long since overshadowed by the massive Michael Heizer art installation, "City", which is many times larger than this airstrip ever was.

Reply to @JitendraPS: Wrong Alexandria, that's Borg El Arab International Airport serving Alexandria, Egypt, and this is Alexandria Airport which is a small rural airport serving Alexandria, Indiana, USA. Please be aware there are many localities in the world with duplicated names.

re: Location not correct

Reply to @phicong: Moved. Thanks for the report.

Picture of phicong

Location not correct

The actual field is slightly to the northeast on the other side of the road.

re: Pixelated -- military stuff

Reply to @david: No longer an issue now that we've moved to Leaflet and ESRI satellite imagery.

Airline service

I notice that Hanscom has airline service now -- great alternative to (overcrowded) KBOS. I've updated the record.

Picture of wolfgangx

Amazing scenery

The views coming into this airport are incredible!

Picture of mikeiaka

re: Update, airport closed from Google maps view.

Reply to @mikeiaka: whoops, it’s the runway that seems to look like that’s it’s getting demolished.

Picture of mikeiaka

Update, airport closed from Google maps view.

Seems to look closed, so I settled it from open to closed.

Runway A-OK (in the middle)

Longest DT that I’ve ever overflown (3300’), but that’s the crumbing half. The remainimg usable runway is in fine condition, far better than the ramp which will need a gingerly low-power taxi to minimize flinging FOD. Speaking of taxis, get that pre-arranged with your lodging because you are quite a way from the handsome town. We loved the Casona de Tete near the center. Only five rooms! A truly worthwhile, memorable stop.

This airport is really clean and helpful for all of us..

Picture of AlanM70

Sad little place that has been neglected

Stopped by for an hour to check out a potential job. Spray plane was buzy but the former FBO is now a water district office so there is no public bathroom available. Sad to see an airport get neglected.

Picture of AlanM70

Nice little airport can sneak in under the Peoria Charlie.

Picked up a passenger on the way to Owensboro. Talked to FAA when on the way home.

Picture of AlanM70

Nice place

Dropped in for a couple of hours. Ate at the Moonlite BBQ Place. I think it was as good as advertised.

Picture of mikeiaka

re: Closed

Reply to @ND8D: thanks, I aready made it closed.

Picture of ND8D

Closed

Runway basically destroyed. No aircraft operations in years.

Picture of ND8D

Closed

Homes built along runway, part of the runway surface removed.

Picture of mikeiaka

Runways closed

Two of the runways, one heading north and one north-west, have X’s on them, since they have them I made those 2 runways closed for now.

Picture of animebirder

Not a typo

While autocorrect and my own instincts tell me this should be "Remembrance", this is indeed the spelling used in AirNav, AOPA, and all other sources.

Picture of KarinaBrits

Home of the 1944 North American P-51 D Mustang!

Had the privilege to see this plane in action! Currently restoring another 2, can't wait to see them in action too!
