Vols ร  Carriacou /Flights to Carriacou

ENGLISH :

Carriacou is a beautiful island with a short and narrow 800m long runway.

I advise you not to land there too loaded (do not reach the MTOW) because on take-off you will have to avoid the trees that surround the runway and a hill in the axis of the runway by making a left turn as soon as possible.

When landing, be careful in the bay where you will be on final, there may be boats anchoring in the axis.

They do not have AVGAS 100LL so take enough fuel to return to the departure aerodrome.

Otherwise you have TVSA (St Vincent) which has 100LL if necessary.

Take care of yourself and safe flights

My Home Field

Earned all my ratings here...from PVT up through CFI-IA. Great facilities, 2 flight schools on the field, maintenance is top-notch, Garmin dealer, and plenty of hangar space (not cheap, but not overly out of line for the area). AIrport has been in operation since the 1920s, and has a good working relationship with the town after many years of issues during the 1980s...could stand as an example of how to go along to get along in the most densely populated state in the US.

During COVID time

As a pilot, during COVID time, it's not harder to go to this airport. You just need to find a nice Handler (HARRIS) that will take care of everything when you arrive there (even with a C172). The West Coast of the Island can be turbulent in the afternoon. When I go to Hewanorra coming from the north of the caribbean, I generally pass on the East Coast to make that flight comfortable for passengers.

Possible reactivation

The provincial governor had promised reconstruction of this airport at least as far back as 2018 and progress is being made on reopening it despite COVID related delays.

Never ending sunset

I landed here at 2am on 7/30 after landing at Deadhorse around midnight. Night may not be the right word since it was basically a 4 hour long sunset/rise. Absolutely incredible

Elevation: ZERO!

Great airport with helpful service, chilled FBO, and cheap gas. But I came here for the selfie with the airport sign showing "Elevation: 0.0"!

Update

I've given this a provisional name based on the location, but I've come up with the same problem as @im -- not mapped, no data available. More research needed.

Crowded airport

I have been to the San Diego airport several times to drop my mom it is a very crowded airport but still the management here works very fast we didn't have to stand in line for a long time.

Landed in SR22T G6

Very bumpy surface, Iโ€™d say its โ€œiffyโ€ for a Cirrus with wheel pants. Incredible spot, short walk to wonderful beach, tie downs and picnic tables on site. Need to sign a waiver and agreement with the operator before landing.

FAA oddity - a CA coded airport in Nevada

Per Airnav:

Sectional chart: (AIRPORT IS 10 MILES INTO NEVADA. THE CLOSEST ASSC CITY IS BISHOP, CA - AND IS CORRECTLY CHARTED ON SAN FRANCISCO SECTIONAL.)

Since it's not actually in California, I have corrected the data to reflect that it is indeed closer to Dyer, Nevada.

Hello! How to download these georeferenced satellite images?

Picture of animebirder

Corrected.

It only took a decade ... but yeah, we're all good here now.

Picture of wolfgangx

Good gas stop

Must have been an old military base. Massive runway. ForeFlight said fair condition but I would say it was good

Picture of wolfgangx

Great restaurant!

Stopped to meet my brother and sister-in-law. The restaurant gave us a bowl of water for our dogs. Very friendly

My instructor pointed out this field a while ago, and every time I fly above it - it does look like an airport. I tried simulated engine failure to approach in this airfield but it's pretty steep on one end and very close to Livermore on the other. Not sure if this is a private field or maybe it never went into operation. Could not find any information about it either

Picture of wolfgangx

good gas stop

TWO avgas pumps!!

Picture of wolfgangx

Great gas stop!

Loved stopping here for gas, classic small town airport

Picture of wolfgangx

Smooth landing

This airport had one of the smoothest runways Iโ€™ve landed on!

Visited May 31, 2021. Courtesy car available, but we didnโ€™t use it. Terminal entry door for pilots is on parking lot side of building.

Not Functional

The aiport is no longer functional. It's been converted to a flea market and landing there would be virtually impossible.

Picture of AlanM70

Nice place to go

I am here for a few days to finish up my private certificate. Will probably consider coming back to get commercial and IFR.

Picture of animebirder

Update

Signed as closed and for sale. Gliderport field is overgrown and now dotted with bushes. Checked in-person 15 May 2021.

Picture of wolfgangx

fees

$309 for a bonanza. not as bad as SFO's $365

Picture of VE6TDH

Needs TLC

The terminal building really needs some cleaning and TLC. Runway is in good shape.

Picture of animebirder

Can you imagine an airport here?

Per http://www.aerofiles.com/airports-CA.html, "[approx: 37-43-22N, 119-38-09W] (19??-19??) 1927 = W of Yosemite Village; "approximately 1300' square grass field, very dangerous." 1928 = (L) (Standard Oil ad, WnFly 1/28). 19?? = (R) Closed to flying activity." The listed coordinates place this at El Capitan Meadow! This does not appear to be listed on Freeman's Abandoned Airports site.

Great Facility

Visited April 2021. Friendly "manager", helped with self serve fuel. Courtesy vehicle available. Great dinosaur museum in town.

Site of Arizona Flying Circus Fly-in

Not quite the same location as the old dedicated airfield to the west, but in a way this resort continues to have aviation facilities in the 21st century. Pretty neat.

What a fun approach! Met family there and when the attendant saw kids come into the airport, he gave them all rubber band balsa gliders.
