New owners won't change this airpark
This area is devoid of anything to do.... landed here a year ago..... thought I would try again recently..... still nothing to do in the area.... NOTL is a WAY BETTER destination. Plus the airport looks like it belongs in the Ozarks....lol....
Shoutout to Owner! :D
Seeing your seaplane in the sky always brightens my day! As an engineering student/rusty private pilot who doesn't get to fly as often as she likes, I love to see that the GA community is as strong as ever.
Best kept secret
9X1 is the best kept secret! A great place to learn and practice at. Jay Yeagar at Right Stuff Flight School is an amazing instructor. The taxiways are a little beaten up but the runway is decent.
Nice spot to drop in
Dropped in on a Sunday afternoon and basically had the field to ourselves. Nice FBO, friendly people, took the courtesy car into town for a burger at Willys Burger... a pretty darn good burger and only about a 9 minute drive from the field. Fuel prices were reasonable.
Cheap gas!
Runway in good condition, need to back taxi to get to the start of 36
helpful ATC (fast talkers)
This was my first x-country solo. I made it within 15 nm and took a weird turn to the SW for some reason. Unsure of the area and no familiar landmarks/waypoints. ATC got me back on track. :)

KCOI is a hotspot for student pilots, whether it's you're home airport or you're doing cross-country. It only has one runway (11-29), which makes life so much easier when you're starting out. The final approach for 29 is over the water, which is insanely fun because it's almost makes you feel like you're landing on an aircraft carrier. Sometimes the traffic can be hectic, so keep your scan up, follow the CTAF procedures, and make ALL of your calls. A CFI I know insists on calling it "Scare-itt Island" because of the goofy stuff pilots sometimes do in the pattern, but it's not that bad if you fly safe.
Love This Airport!
I completed my PPL at TIX, and I can honestly say I love flying there! Sure, you have to watch your ps and qs or ATC won't be happy, but you can't beat the view of Kennedy Space Center when you're taking off from Runway 9. The 4 long runways are give so many landing options, especially for student pilots.
Awesome
Agreed with what @Komatoast said
re: History Of Rose Aviation on Hawthorne Airport from 1963
It is where I learned to fly got my ratings and taught flying for over a year then went to the airlines
Beacon YWA-------
Was listening on a sony old table radio and had modified it with preselective tuning antenna input from a 80 meter inverted Vee at 70feet. I could hear either a modulated tone or a hetrodyne tone and copied the YWA. I looked it up on yahoo and found that it is coming from Petawawa in Canada. Cool. I then hooked up my DX-400 Shortwave digital tuning reciever and went to 515khz. and recieve the message of YWA again. It was a little weak but very easy to copy. I am located in Gladstone, Michigan in the U.P. My call letters are WB8FUW.
Great Airport
Line service was very friendly and helpful. Had to emergency land here due to ice and Approach was a life-saver!

New terminal renovations and new fuel pumps.
lunch at the cafe was great!
friendly cafe, lots of aircraft activity for an older, out-of-the-way place
steep approach on rwy 25 to avoid the trees
Self Serve Fuel
Fuel 100LL $1.57; JetA $1.26 as of Nov 2018
Obstacles
Watch out for the tall towers just north of the field. I think traffic for RWY 10 is right for this reason. Also if taking RWY 10 note the mature trees/telephone poles right at the end of the RWY. The trees look to be taller than 50' and are maybe 30ft from the end of the runway so plan accordingly.
Float plane from Vancouver to Harrison
Is it possible to fly by float plane from Vancouver to Harrison Hot Springs?
Lack of seating at gates.
Lack of seats in U.S terminal for passengers waiting to board. Pity because there is enough room to double the seating capacity in the terminal.

The trees are taller than they appear. Know your short field performance and maybe don't take off at gross weight if its close. Bonanza V35 at gross was too close for comfort on takeoff.

Why oh Why
Nooo! This is so sad...airports closing all over and no place for the little guy to learn flying..this will be a dead sport at this rate :(
Airport closed
Google Earth (5/2001) shows the runway was a 400 m straight stretch of dirt road. Current Google Earth shows houses now built along the roadside.

Amazing
Took the family to visit Upper Canada village . We landed in Morrisburg . Very nice airport , excellent paved runway . The grass to the sides was kept very trim and neat and a cable was conveniently laid across the parking area making tie down very easy . A short walk ,even with a 3 year old and 6 year old brought us to the Upper Canada Village site .Picnic areas , beach , as well as a golf course are all within a very short walk as well. A shame more pilots don't know about this wonderful airport .

I'm looking for flights to Pittsburgh and back . any pilots that fly that route
I fly Use that Airport all the time half of it is in Beverly
I fly Use that Airport all the time half of it is in Beverly the other half in Danvers, , i went to Flight School on the danvers side there.
Great airport, Runway 27 and 16 are my fav runways..
Glider activity
Watch out for glider activity.
Friendly ATC
As a newish pilot, I always appreciate a non-class B personality in the controllers.
Be on your game
This place is short and skinny. On top of that, it sits in a valley. It's a neat place but you better know your plane. I actually landed here in bad weather and I had no problem, but I can imagine pilots running long and ending up on the golf course.
Following your successful landing, go around the creek and get a meal at the Copper Kettle.
