Prickett-Grooms Field Airport
Had a pretty scary experience getting out of there!
My advice: Be light and be familiar with these rough rural grass strips as I've been told this one can bite you!!
FBO
Good service; moderate fuel price
No. 4 Gunnery School
Are there any remaining buildings from the No. 4 Bombing and Gunnery School. It is now a wildlife area but am wondering if some historical landmarks still remain.

Phone Number
I was wondering where I might find the phone number for the seaplane base or someone who is involved.
re: Ultralight and Skydivers base
Reply to @dazuppa:
The trailer parks, 3 of them, are WEST of the airport, both patterns are EAST of the field.
The best way to get field info is by calling the Airport Manager found in the CFS listing, the nice folks at Toronto Aerosports are often not there for days on end.
The Parachute School of Toronto (info is available at www dot parachuteschool dot com) who also run a C-206 and several others on occasion will happily tell you what they are doing currently also.
Flying to Lac Desert
I am interested in taking a seaplane to Lac Desert and was wondering how much it would cost. I have a map of Lac Desert . It is North West of Maniwaki, Quebec. Send me a quote please.
History of RCAF Station Dog Creek, B.C.
The aviation history of the Dog Creek, B.C. airport both before and after WW-2 is covered in a full chapter in my book "North by Northwest" which is available from the author and publisher. The book lists the history of each airport in the Okanagan, Cariboo and from Prince George west to Prince Rupert. Visit the web site creeksidepublications.ca for full information.
Airport site
The little green aircraft on the map is not on the Chapter 65 field but is next field east. The two runways are to the left of the 'little green whatsit.
Airport lighting
Now available, and transmitter-controlled - details from Chapter 65
re: Is 100 Octane Fuel Available?
According to the Canada Flight Supplement, CYPX does have 100LL available retail (extremely rare for an airport in the Canadian North). You need to give prior notice by calling 819-988-2625 during weekday hours, and have to give seven days advance notice if you plan to pay by credit card. More details in the CFS (which you should have if you're flying up that way).
Unfortunately, it's not like buying gas down south - you can't just show up, ask for a fill, and then hand over your VISA. Still, it beats having to negotiate privately to buy barrels of avgas.
Impressive
Wow, that is impressive to own your own little airport!

Wynyard Airport renamed W.B. Needham Field
The Wynyard Airport was renamed "W.B. Needham Field" on Saturday, 27 August, 2011. Flight Lieutenant (ret'd) Needham flew with 412 Fighter Squadron through the war, with a long list of notable accomplishments including 4 missions on D-Day in his Spitfire "VZ-R" before being shot down and taken prisoner by the Germans. He served at 412 Squadron with other notable airmen including Charley Fox DFC, Bar, and Pilot Officer John Gillespie Magee Jr., author of High Flight.
Location
I don't think that's the correct location. I think it's a little northeast of there. I just can't figure out exactly what field. I'm wondering if it's the field surrounded by trees, kind of a yellowish-brown patch on its own.
re: Why does this helistop exist?
Reply to @ptomblin:
Nope, no hospital nearby. This is a municipal helistop and is in the middle of a large area of office buildings. My guess is that planners thought that there would be some helicopter traffic to and from the buildings and wanted to plan for general access instead of every building needing it's own stop. This, obviously, was not needed as the helicopter as a mode of everyday travel is simply silly for most people.
Great service
Landed at CYWG this afternoon and parked my Cherokee at the Avitat. The first time I looked out the window, they were fueling my plane; the second time I looked, they were washing my windshield, as if it were a 1950s gas station!
Meanwhile, the woman at the desk found me a hotel room (nice hotel, very inexpensive), a taxi, and a list of vegetarian restaurants, and didn't even require my credit card in advance (as most FBOs do).
Runways
Officially 03/21 is closed, however it is usable if necessary to avoid strong crosswinds on 12/30. Surface condition is good but no longer maintained.

Esso is great
I second the comments from @douglasr - the Esso Avitat (Thunder Bay Flight Refueling) has big-airport service without the big-airport fees (compare the Esso Avitat at CYUL or CYOW to see what I'm talking about): no ramp fee, no handling fee, no parking fee.
Ryan, who was on duty, was very friendly and professional: he even booked a hotel for me downtown and arranged for them to pick me up in their shuttle, so that I wouldn't have to pay for a taxi.

deer and birds on strip
pilots should keep a sharp lookout for deer and birds on the strip
Nice and quiet
It's a beautiful and quiet spot with lost of friendly faces and BBQ's on Friday's :-)
Fuel
Called the Airport manager at +1 807 597-2135.
100LL costs $1.60/liter + HST ($1.81/litre, or $6.85/US gallon). Prior notice is required, but the manager said that it usually takes only 5 minutes for someone to show up, so it's OK to land first and then call the number listed above.
Regular hours are 7:30 am to 3:00 pm local. Outside of those hours, there is a $75 callout charge.
First visit
Was asked to leave as this is a private airport and I was trespassing. It seems as though the local Airvac Service is running the show with the cooperation of the sheriff. No one attending and no 100LL.
Re: Stupid Question :)
As there isn't a scheduled air carrier that serves the Pembroke Airport, the only legal way of getting your friend out east and back would be a charter flight. That would start at about $10000 for a small piston powered aircraft upwards to $50000+ for a jet. If that interests you, search for air charter in Ottawa, Montreal or Toronto. Otherwise, you might look into a limo to the Ottawa airport and then Air Canada or Westjet.
Stupid Question :)
How do I or is it possible to have someone fly a friend to newfoundland for 3 to 4 days and then pick them up. Just wondering how much something like this would cost, and where would be a good starting point to ask around?
Squamish Airpor Day - August 27, 2011
The Squamish Flying Club (CYSE) is hosting a Fly-In and Community Day at the Airport Saturday August 27th, 2011. Fun for the whole family! Fly-in before 10:30 am and have your aircraft on Static Display! For more information call 604-898-9016!
Chilko Lake Airport
Unless there is a strong wind from the lake, use a north bound approach and land uphill. With a strong wind from lake, approach from down river, stay close to the mountain, sharp dogleg to the left, full flaps when aligned with the downhill runway. Beautifull area, fantastic fishing, watch out for the grizzlies.

Contact info, hours, and fuel
Air Creebec (Esso) FBO: +1 705 336-3517
Hours: 7:00 am-9:00 pm local Monday-Friday; 7:00 am-6:00 pm Saturday. Not sure about Sunday.
As of 2011-08-21, 100LL is available for $1.98/litre ($7.50/US gallon) + HST (13%). Fuel is generally more expensive up north due to transportation costs, so that's not too bad.
Heads Up
Some pointers:
Watch out for the trees on both sides of the runway as they are not far from the edge (~10-20ft)
Must land on RNWY 31 and take off 13.
Don't try to out climb the hill at the "departure" end of RNWY 31 as you will fail
Please keep in mind of the houses around the runway.
RNWY 31 in up hill which in turn makes RNWY 13 down hill. this is very helpful for braking on landing and accelerating on takeoff
Call before arriving 479-359-3204
Above all. Enjoy the view of Beaver Lake on approach and after Take-off
KFEP - Freeport/Albertus - Second Time.
Always like going into Freeport to meet up with the parents. Nice long strip, however it was short field landings today to maintain proficiency.
I live in Liskeard.....
Cool that I found a little info on the airport - I live in New Liskeard and the strip is still in Microsoft Flight Sim. 2004, if it's the same one I'm thinking of. In the sim you get a building and some concrete taxi way and the grass strip and if you take off over the lake you better throttle up and over the trees at the end of the strip - cool stuff.
Friendly FBO
The FBO guys were nice and friendly. Airport is about a 15-20 min walk to a number of restaurants. Close to the mountains too, so some great scenery in the area.
Customs
No problems with Customs guys. Called 207-473-7474, 2 hrs beforehand, and they were waiting for me at the GA Terminal (not the Passenger terminal). There is no courtesy car, but apparently lots of car rental companies are handy.
Routes YJT airport
Site fails to mention Stephenville to Toronto and Toronto to Stephenville service offered by Sunwing Airlines, 737-800
Stephenville International Airport
Best Airport in Atlantic Canada, for runway, and weather conditions. Just wish AC would return or Porter Airlines would consider serving the region with YJT as it's airport of choice. Politics has moved 90% of Aviation to Deer Lake Regional Airport. A government funded airport while Stephenville sits with no funding what so ever.
Moultrie municipal
Its unreal how friendly they are there. And the establishment is one of the most well kept places ive seen in the area. The owner allen is a top notch guy.
re: Beautiful Place!
Reply to @Tony: As far as the approach goes, I agree. I and many other pilots land to the East. I feel it is a much better and safer approach. I assume the recommendation to land to the East is because in the event of a go-around, you may have to head to the right to avoid the rising terrain, and fly out over the river. This would not be a problem unless you were very low and 2/3rds of the way down the strip before deciding to go around. In my opinion, you need to commit one or the other way before that.
If you land on runway 7, you can fly around the corner down the river a ways, and set up a nice base-to-final approach, (of course announcing your actions on 122.9.) Then, you can come straight in on final, and clear the trees, and by the time you get down, you have avoided the extended West end of the strip, which is fairly rough. You can still ususually get stopped by the Ranger Station gate, well before the tiedowns at the East end near the campground.
I would not recommend taking off to the East unless you have a good short-field airplane, and the wind is significant from the East, which is rare here.

Fullerton A/P
Fullerton is a great all around GA A/P. No real traffic problems and when you get on the ground facilities are excellent

Pilon Airport

Friendliest FBO I've ever been to!
I spent some time in Beatrice on business. Friendliest FBO staff I've ever seen. I landed in 2010 during the summer heat wave, and I was literally dead on my feet after 8 hours in a 100+ degree plane. The woman working at the FBO told me to go inside and get some free ice water and she would refuel my airplane (at the self service pump) and find me a place to stay overnight. They charged me fuel at the self-service rate, even though they put the fuel in for me. I've been back a few times and every time Beatrice is always as friendly as it was the first time.
Support your airport
This airport has only 6 based airplanes and is losing more every year! The town of Wheatland should do more to promote and take care of this valuable piece of real estate!!! You'll be sorry if it goes away and someone in your family has an emergency and needs a Flight for Life to the nearest trauma center. Phifer Field has the potential to be so much better than it is if the town would only take some interest in it.
Bought gas here
Just a quick stop for gas on my way to Oklahoma from Oshkosh.
