re: YADG
You must be thinking about some other airport, or are you dreaming?
Beware
Very friendly if they can get some money off you. Otherwise arrogant, do not do as we do, do as we say. Fly odd circuits and illegal right hand circuits.
Exercise extreme caution when approaching and in the circuit as no consideration toward others.
DO NOT DO ANYTHING WRONG
You will either get abused or dobbed in to CASA.
2 rules, one for them and one for others.
Such a shame as is beautiful setting that deserves better.
Care Needed - John Ryner
Yes they have a reputation for dobbing aviators in to CASA – I was warned!
The school is called Adelaide Biplanes, they have some kind of mental problem.
Just stick to rules and you will be OK, there own students can do what they like.
Also beware of aircraft landing in any direction on any strip at the same time – its pretty crazy – well it was when I landed there a few time on my SA holiday.
Dobber
Don't do a go-round he flying school will ping you to CASA for low flying
In fact don't do anything wrong here - leafe that to them - two standards!!!!
Great Airport
Exclusive Charter Service has great service out of here,
suggest calling them for a Jet, flow with them for years now and always on the ball!

re: Closed for public use
Reply to @fferm: that's bad news -- I hate to see yet another airport close.
re: Runway closure.
Thanks for the info - I've marked 18/36 as closed.
Yorkies Puppies!
I received an email from a Joesph Masterson's wife saying the were oncologist doctors from New York but got sent to Cameroon for work. She needed $100 to ship the dog to me... I new it was a scam. The airport called me, as soon I would ignore it I'd call it back and it would be disconnected. Now I am just messing with them! WHAT FUN! I am wasting their time like they are wasting mine!!! Does anyone know if this airport is even real?
Runway closure.
the shire has recently (Feb 2010) errected a fence on the south side of the east west runway which runs across the north south runway.
the shire will nolonger maintain the north south runway and have placed out os service crosses along the north west runway.
Closed for public use
Unfortunately this airport is now closed for public use and will be fully closed in the spring of 2010

I sent the money out yesterday morning and he said i would receive the puppy no later then today! I talked to him on the phone and everything! I feel so stupid and I'm PISSED! After he emailed me and said that the he was on his way to Douala International Airport that's when i decided to do some research and i founds out that all this was a scam!! He said that his wife had died two weeks ago and he needed to give away 2 puppies that he had but he wanted to keep them together so he wanted to give me both and i said no i just wanted one and that's when he said it was just going to be 90 bucks for 1. So i paid the bastard and now he's coming up with all this BS and how he's been busy all day trying to get paper work together and shit blah blah blah blah..i can't believe that people actually scam others this way! I believe in karma and i hope it goes around twice as bad to this dumb ass who ripped me off!

Orangeville Airport
I got my PPL license there in 1971 with Townsend Air Service. It was also a Lake Amphibian distributor. Not sure what year it closed. Elton Townsend moved the operation to Muskoka Airport.
Avgas at Cassidy International
Flying on a ferry flight with my new (used) Saratoga from USA to Australia and the ferry company has scheduled landing at Cassidy for fuel. If there is no avgas then I won't be going any further. They always land there so I assume they arrange to ensure it is available.
Prairie Jewel
A great place to fly to, situated on highway 24 which runs to Calgary to the north and Lethbridge to the south. Right next to the Vulcan airport is the golf club which boasts a great 18 hole course and you can take a short walk across a couple of fairways from the airport and have breakfast or lunch at the club house (spring thru fall only). Vulcan is a growing agricultural community about 90 minutes southeast of Calgary Alberta and lots of retired Calgarians are moving here to escape the hustle of the big city. The main part of town has shops and other restaurants to choose from. Population is about 3,000.
Runway
Bassano airport has a new re-surfaced runway 07/25 and is a great place to land, it has a pilots lounge with pay phone and washrooms. This airport is just off the Trans Canada highway. It also now has a flying school which just opened this year (2010). The town is only a short distance from the airport and has a couple of great restaurants to choose from. The local flying community and town puts together an awesome airshow each summer. This small farming community has some of the friendliest people around.
re: Beja Airport
Me too. can,t wait, it will save such a lot of time & petrol , travelling down to faro.
re: Spectacular approach!
Reply to @philippe: You havn't seen Isafjordur wich is a scheduled airport and the runway heading is straight in to a mountain and a narrow approach to, more spectacular!

re: Lovely caribbean airports.
Here's a YouTube video of a landing — I love that they stop in time for the turnoff halfway down:
Lovely caribbean airports.
An airport with attitude. Cliffs and sea on both ends, only 1300 ft. long. Mountain on one side.
The Dutch engineers thought it couldn't be done. A french pilot said flatten the bumps, fill the holes and I'll land on it. They did and he did. Now it's rated as one of the world's most dangerous airports. Nevertheless, no serious accidents have occurred here. Just make sure you hit the numbers and that your brakes are in good condition. Otherwise, have a nice swim.

re: aka 6q6?
That seems to be a former identifier - I've added it to the keywords.
re: Update
Thanks - I've marked it as closed. Are you sure no one uses it occasionally (gliders, ultralights, etc.?).
re: NDB installed
Reply to @PrinceJ: if you can point me to more information about the NDB, I can add it to the site. I need name, identifier, latitude, and longitude (at least).
Thanks,
David
re: pilot info
Reply to @juf: Thanks - I've marked the airport as closed for now, and can change the status back when the new runway is ready. I'm guessing it won't be only a glider airport in the future.
re: Hawke Field
Reply to @prattsoplenty: Thanks - I've changed the status of the airport to show that it's operational, and added a "private" tag.
re: Hawke Field
Reply to @david: I think it is just closed to the public. The owner has a very nice collection of airplanes including a couple of Harvards, a Waco bi-plane and others that he keeps there.
re: Hawke Field
Reply to @prattsoplenty: Is this no longer in use, or is it just closed to the public?

Vietnam-War era reliever
The US built this strip as a reliever for Nha Trang Air Base (VVNT) during the Vietnam War. In the satellite photo, it appears abandoned.
History
This was built as a US air base during the Vietnam war, and was captured by North Vietnam in 1975. The airport received major reconstruction during the early 2000s, and starting in 2004, it took over scheduled civilian air traffic for Nha Trang from VVNT.
Vietnam War
This was originally a French colonial air base built in 1949, and it served as a major US and South Vietnamese air base during the Vietnam War, until its capture in 1975. Until 2004, the base handled civilian traffic for Nha Trang as well, but that now goes through VVCR.

Reply to @bcrosby: Also PPR as they have security up there. The other ice strip in the CFS is Gahcho Kue CGK2 which is PPR as well.

re: Name During WW2?
According to the Japanese-language Wikipedia article, this base was opened in 1942 for the Empire of Japan's Naval Air Corps, seized by US forces in 1945, and handed back over to the Japanese military in 1954 (where it later became the home of the JADF's "Blue Impulse" aerobatic team). There is no mention of what name the US might have used for the base during the occupation.
Name During WW2?
What was the name of this airport during ww@? I spent time ehere with the 11th Airborne, It would be intresting to see it now and talk about it, cfowler26@kc.rr.com
